At the December meeting of the Washington Town council, Mayor Stew Willis proposed evaluating the Clopton parcel and the VDOT property for use as Town drainfield sites.

He reported that David Cole of Sunnyside Farms had said that he "may support a drainfield" on the Clopton property, and that Mr. Cole had given permission for the Town to have an engineer look at the site.

The Mayor also suggested that the Carrigan property might be a suitable acquisition for the Town for use as a drainfield site and for other purposes, and Councilman Steve Critzer volunteered to inquire about that possibility.

Mayor WTillis recommended, and the Council approved, an expenditure of up to $3000 to Resources International to evaluate the potential of the Clopton and VDOT properties as drainfield sites.

Tributes to

William M. Carrigan

Mayor Willis presented the Council with a draft resolution acclaiming the contributions of longtime Town resident and benefactor William Carrigan, who passed away on Nov. 20, 2000. The resolution recognized Mr. Carrigan's support of the Rappahannock Library, the Rappahannock County Historical Society, the County Time Capsule, the Child Care and Learning Center, and the Independence Day celebrations.. The resolution names Mr. Carrigan as an Honorary Member of the Tbwn Council for the remainder of iter 1998-2002 term, and designates each-future Independence Day celebration as the "William M. Carrigan Independence Day Celebration."

The Mayor also suggested a donation on Mr. Carrigan's behalf, and Council members Charlie Tompkins and Critzer moved a seconded a motion to donate $500 in his name to the Child Care and Learning Center. Both the resolution and contribution motion were approved by the Council.
