He notes that "the earlier you get into it (substance abuse), the more damage it’s going to do," and so the corollary is that the earlier one seeks treatment, the more likely is the solution.
If a substance abuse problem is caught at its earliest emergence, the solution may be individual or family counseling at Family Guidance Services. "If it becomes a greater problem (substance abuse all the time)," Mr. Treanor said, "I would plug them into a group.
At the next level of severity, when the problem is such that they cannot not use (drugs)," Mr. Treanor would likely recommend enrollment in the twenty-eight day residential program at Boxwoods in Culpeper, and for a very severe case, the three month residential program at a facility such as Rubicon in Richmond.
