Basketball
The boys' Varsity and Junior Varsity basketball teams had two non-District games last week, both away. On Tuesday, Dec. 12 the RCHS Panthers traveled to Page County to face their teams rematch of the Dec. 5 games held here. Unfortunately for the Rappahannock squad, the result was the same. The RCHS I^bnthers got off to a good start, but as Coach Dayton said after the game, "We just couldn’t maintain the intensity necessary to keep us where we needed to be in the final quarter.”
The Varsity game saw the Page County team just slowly creep away with their early lead and the Rappahannock squad never really threatened. The final score had Page County on top 75-61 with the ' same 14 point victory margin they had in their game here at the RCHS gym. Junior Jamie Keys led all Rapp scorers with 18 points, senior forward Chris Fletcher and Junior Jeff Ritenour contributed 16 and 11 points respectively.
The Junior Varsity also fell to the Page County JV again. This time the final score was 61- 48. Sophomore Greg Jackson led the Junior Varsity team with 16 points and Freshman John Letsen added nine points.
Weather was the winner Wednesday night, Dec. 13 as all games and extracurricular events were canceled due to icy road conditions. The boys' basketball game at Luray, the girls' volleyball game here against Clarke County High School, and the wrestling match at Fauquier High School all fell victim to the weather. The next day saw all teams back at practice and by Friday, Dec. 15 everyone was back in action.
On Friday, the Varsity and Junior Varsity basketball teams traveled to Clarke County to play the Eagles on their home court. It was not a good game for the Panthers. The Rappahannock squad fell behind early and could not get back in the game. The Clarke County team just continued to pull away. When the final horn sounded the Eagles had won 81-47. Sophomore Kerry Grigsby played a gritty game and led the Panthers with 16 points. Jamie Keys had 12 points and Jeff Ritenour added ten points.
The Junior Varsity game went about the same way. When the game ended, the Clarke county JV was on top 62- 39. Greg Jackson had 11 points and Freshman David Letsen contributed eight.
Both teams travel to Luray on Friday night, Dec. 22 for the makeup game with the Bulldogs. The JV game starts at 6 and Varsity follows immediately thereafter.
