He was born Sept. 7, 1926 in Capital Heights, Md. to the late Edward Leith and Daisy Embrey Dempsey.
Mr. Dempsey was a veteran, having served in the United States Army and Merchant Marines. He was a retired engineer with the Untied States Government.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Lee Dempsey; four sons, Edward Dempsey Jr. of Bealeton, Kenneth Dempsey of Bandy Station, James Dempsey Sr. of Elwood and Robert Dempsey of Spotsylvania and two daughters, Diane Hooks of Remington and Jennie Fewell of Flint Hill.
Additional survivors include nine brothers and sisters; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Found & Sons Chapel with the Rev. John S. Farrar officiating.
