The Bar Association of the District of' Columbia announced its Lawyer of the Year, Robert L. Weinberg, Esquire at its 129th annual banquet on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Embassy of France.
A resident of Sperryville, Wpinberg has served as President of the Bar Association of D.C. in the 90 s and as President of the D.C. Bar in the 70's. He came from Yale Law School in 1960 to join the then small Washington law office of Edward Bennett Williams, a former recipient of this same award.
For the next 35 years, until retirement, Weinberg practiced in Ed's Shop, litigating trials and appeals in federal criminal, civil, and administrative cases.
In 1967 Weinberg had the privilege of joining with Ed Williams, Paul Connolly, Vince Fuller, Ray Bergan, David Webster, Jerry Collins and Tom Wadden, as the founding partners of Williams and Connolly, which soon became a leading national litigation firm. Weinberg followed Paul Connolly s well known dictum, that every lawyer should undertake at least one pro bono case a year; and Weinberg promoted this ideal during his, service over many years as Chair of the D.C. Circuit Judicial Conference Standing Committee on Pro Bono Matters.
