close, the Rappahannock girls won two straight 16-14 and 15-13 to take the match. After the game, Coach Stan Brooks Jr. said, "The girls were great tonight. They were focused, intense, and played really hard, solid team volleyball. Hopefully, we can build on this and go forward from here.”
The Junior Varsity Lady Panthers were also successful as they won their match with the Page County JV two games to one. They won game one 15-11; lost game two 1614; and came back to win game three 15-8. This was their second winning performance this year.
Following the weather canceled games on Wednesday, the girls were in action again on Friday, Dec. 15. The Lady Mountaineers from Madison County came here to play the Rappahannock team at our gym. The weather interruption had the same effect on the volleyball team as it did the basketball teams. The Lady Panthers never got in the match.
The Madison team won two straight games, 15-2 and 15-6. It was not a good night as the Lady Panthers hurt themselves time and again by failing to get their serves in. Falling back to a 50 percent first serve rate, after serving at 90 percent against Page County High School on Monday night, prevented the Lady Panthers from getting any offense going.
The Junior Varsity squad was stricken with the same problem and lost two straight games, 15-5 and 15-2. The Madison JV won the match without ever rally being challenged by the Rappahannock squad. After playing so well in their last two contests, it was a disappointing loss for the Lady Panthers.
The Volleyball teams play at Stonewall Jackson High School on Monday, Dec. 18 before taking a long holiday break until their next contest on Jan. 5 against Bull Run District opponent, Manassas Park. The Varsity Lady Panthers will participate in a holiday tournament to be held at Madison County High School on Thursday, Dec. 28, Rappahannock’s First game that day is at 11:30 a.m. against Orange County High School's volleyball team.
