He is survived by two brothers. Dickie Atkins and Donald Atkins, both of Culpeper and two sisters, Betty Allman of Nixa, Mo. and Mary Alice Hoffman of Culpeper.
He is also survived by his long time companion, Helen Weatherholt of Front Royal.
Graveside services were conducted on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Robert J. Donnelly officiating.

Ray Pennington II
Technologist
Ray Milton Pennington II, 74, a World War II veteran and radiology technologist whose career spanned five decades, died on Dec. 10 of complications from pneumo-, nia.
Mr. Pennington enlisted in the Army immediately upon graduation from high school and was a machine gunner in the 76th Infantry Division of the 3rd Army. Commanded by General George Patton Jr., the 3rd Army moved rapidly through Europe and was responsible for the capture of approximately 1.2 million German soldiers. Mr. Pennington received Battle Stars for campaigns in Germany and Czechoslovakia and was an expert marksman.
After the war, he attended Concord College in Athens, W.Va. and then attended school to become a radiology technologist. While in school, he met and married Bettie Ann Wine of Front Royal.
He became Chief X-Ray Technician at Ann Arundel Hospital in Annapolis, Md. from 1952-57. In 1958 he moved to Warrenton to become Chief X-Ray technician at Fauquier Hospital. He retired from Fauquier Hospital earlier this year. He is believed to be the only technologist in the country who worked in the field for 50 years.
In addition to his wife, Bettie Ann Pennington of 49 years, survivors include his children, Bonnie Williams of Flint Hill, Ray Pennington III and John Pennington, both of Warrenton, Edward Pennington of Amissville and Mark Pennington of Orlean and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Orlean Baptist Church by Rev. Randy West. Interment was in Orlean Cemetery.
Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton was in charge of the arrangements.
