clerks (one a critical, vitriolic, rock-star wannabe; the other a thin, pale, mouse, the classic underachiever) are continually driving customers away, usually through caustic criticism of the would-be record buyer’s musical taste. Cusack notes he would fire the clerks, but he never hired them in the first place, they just started showing up. The two store employees provide a continuing thread of humor woven throughout the-film.
Tim Robbins has a very interesting role as Laura's (his current dumped girlfriend) new love interest. In one scene, Cusack's character imagines himself punching out the new lover, but in reality does nothing threatening.
The equally lovely Catherine Zeta-Jones and Lisa Bonet make cameo appearances as love interests, as well.
