wrestling team traveled to Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas and participated in a quad meet with teams from Brentsville High School, Brooke Point High School, and Stonewall Jackson.
Twenty-one of the 32 man wrestling squad faced their first competition. Rappahannock’s wrestlers acquitted themselves well winning ten of 36 matches in their first meet against three experienced opponents.
Wins were recorded by Max Haynes (103 lbs.), John Ferdetta (119 lbs.), Cody Rodriguez (125 lbs.), Gamer Smythe (140 lbs.), Chris Graves (160), Jeff Scroggins (189), Jeremy Graves (215 lbs.), and Jason Simeon (215 lbs.).
Four of these victories were by pins. After the match, Coach Wells said, "Although we are inexperienced, our take downs looked good and we won 43 percent of the near falls. We were tentative at first, but loosened up as we realized that we were competitive with these teams. Several of our wrestlers were pinned when they were ahead in points but fell into situations they had not faced before."
On Friday, Dec. 15 the wrestling team traveled to Randolph Macon Academy for their first dual-meet. The Panther grapplers beat the RMA B-Team 56-24. After Brian Robinsons' lead off win in the 103 pound weight class, the Rapp squad never looked back. Ace Gainer (112) and John Ferdetta (119) won by forfeit.
