An ice storm hit the county and was called the worst since 1979. Last weekend was a utility company's nightmare in Piedmont Virginia, as wet snow and ice snapped trees and broke power lines, causing power outrages and closing roads. The difficulty began on Thursday night when up to six inches of wet snow fell on the county. Early Friday, the snow turned to sleet and freezing rain, which continued falling for much of the day. Frank Pearl of Huntly and Willie Smith Jr. of Amissville have been elected to membership in the American Angus Association, according ; to Dick Spader, the organization's executive ' vice-president.
