“As a younger person, they are in there intoxicated, they have no idea what they are doing. They go in with a total disregard, it is not really hate. These kids are drunk, I’ve seen it over and over,” said Sgt. Crane, adding he wasn’t making excuses for them. “They have a lack of judgment and then you mix in alcohol and drugs.”
“They’re uninhibited,” added the sheriff.
Asked why Montpelier was targeted, Sgt. Crane replied, “It was vacant.”
“They were all willing participants,” said Sgt. Crane, describing what happened at Montpelier. “There was somewhat of a collegiate atmosphere and somewhat of a frenzy. It started as foolishness and became frenzy and they literally destroyed everything in their path.”
Asked how long the “frenzy” lasted at Montpelier, Sgt. Crane said, “The evidence shows four or five hours.”
