Estes from Piedmont District, George Muth from Stonewall-Hawthorne and Peter Kramer from Hampton to the Rappahannock County Board of Zoning Appeals.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Washington Volunteer Fire Department recently paid off the $15,000 loan taken in 1987 to purchase the department's largest piece of equipment , an American LaFrance 1500 gallon per minute pumper. Presenting the title to Washington VFD Chief Roger Roach in a lead photograph are auxiliary members Frances Foster, Marie Davis, Ethel Bailey and Jean Alther. Long-time members of the Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Company Mr. and Mrs. Ray T. Cannon are presented the county fire and rescue association's Citizen of the Year award by Sheriff John Henry Woodward, who is also the chief of the Castleton department. Mr. Cannon was the company's first chief and Mrs. Cannon has been a member of its auxiliary. The Amissville Ruritan Club has selected Mrs. Maybelle ’Mickey" Stuart as its citizen of the year. Mrs. Stuart was praised for her contributions to the citizens of Amissville through her volunteer work, especially with Amissville United Methodist Women. Her most significant contribution was believed to be her donation of eight acres to the Ruritan Club for use by the Ruritans, Little League and other community organizations. —COMPILED BY BARBARA C.
