Public comments reflected a strong bias in support of the Fire and Rescue site over the Duxbury site, especially among Jackson District residents, though some speakers expressed their concern and confusion about the overall cell tower application and review process.
This last cell tower hearing of the Sprint PCS application drew a smaller audience and a reduced level of emotional expression and, in the end, the Board of Supervisors unanimously supported Jackson District Supervisor Ron Frazier’s motion to approve the Amissville Fire and Rescue location. Mr. Frazier asked rhetorically if this was the perfect solution or the best site, and answered that he didn’t know, but that he did know he had the best constituency in the County. His motion to approve the Fire and Rescue site was a recognition of the work performed by those constituents to convince the Board to support that view.
School news
During the afternoon session of the December Board of Supervisors meeting, School Superintendent Dr. David Gangel and Director of Curriculum and Instruction Richard Smith provided information on major school donations and on curriculum developments.
Dr. Gangel noted that Headwaters had donated a greenhouse to the school system and that work was in progress to determine the optimum location and uses for the structure.
He also reported that wrestling coach Jim Wells had donatid a wrestling room, and that the room was under construction as an addition to the gymnasium.
