Hampton District Supervisor Bryant Lee who expressed concern for “elderly residents on fixed incomes," the Board reviewed the program of tax relief for the elderly and handicapped, its limits, and possible changes. Commissioner of Revenue Beverly Atkins will be asked to attend the January meeting to discuss the impact of changes to the program that would increase the numbers of those eligible.
• Michael Soule of the Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board spoke to the Board about a new program, “People Helping People.” that is designed to provide prescriptions to low-income senior citizens. He noted that the program will start in January of 2002, and he asked for the Board’s financial support. The Board approved a motion by Supervisor Robert Anderson to donate $1000.
• Phil Irwin introduced a resolution by which the Board would voice its support for the extension of the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail in the County, and on a motion by Bob Anderson, the Board agreed to do so.
• The Board discussed the schedule for hearing on the lighting and sludge ordinances, and established a January date for the sludge ordinance hearing. At the request of Mr. Lee, Board representatives will meet with businesses that may be impacted by the lighting ordinance to obtain their
