He also authored the Virginia Bill of Rights in 1776, which states that it is the “Duty of all to practice Christian Forbearance, Love, and Charity towards each other."
The Constitution of Virginia is contrary to the false doctrine of separation of church and state espoused today.
Since Madison was the author of the First Amendment, I respectfully submit that I have made my case. Separation of church and state, as interpreted today, was never the intent of the founding fathers. The misinterpreted comments of Jefferson, made in an election campaign, can hardly carry the same weight as the words of Madison who authored the First Amendment.
The First Amendment guarantees freedom of religion and not freedom from religion. May God revive its true intent.
