• The Winter Session of Adult Education is scheduled to begin the last week in January 2002. Brochures are near completion and will be available throughout the county before Christmas. Please stay tuned for more information on the exciting class offerings.

So far we have commitments from instructors for the following classes: Guitar, Word Processing, Web Page Design, Intro to Excel (Spreadsheets), Basics of Investing, Drawing, Watercolors, Chair Caning and more. Consider giving a class as a gift to someone you know!

• As many of you may know, the Rappahannock County High School is in the first phase of the application process for acceptance into the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The application process is intense and the school is required to have in place a variety of successful higher level classes.

RCPS staff who recently attended an IB training conference in Pittsburgh, Pa., the weekend of Dec 1 and 2 are: Joe Perine, RCHS Principal, Richard Smith, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and Middle School and High School Teachers, Jenny Stanley, Melissa Delcour, Mike Weir and Karen Alexander.

IB is a program open to all students who wish to participate in individual classes or the Diploma Program. Classes stress higher level thinking strategies and “out of the box” approaches to learning. If we are fortunate enough to bring IB to Rappahannock our students should benefit universally,

• Headwaters, the Rappahannock County Public Education Foundation, will be presenting a Community Forum on IB in the near future. If you are interested in learning more about the program and how it may impact your child’s education, please stay tuned for more details.
