Board of directors to meet
The December board of directors meeting for Headwaters, the Rappahannock County Public Education Foundation, will take place Monday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Extension Office. The meeting is open to the public.
Santa at Horse N Hound
Horse N Hound in Flint Hill will be having Santa visit on Saturday, Dec. 8 from noon to 2 p.m. There will be free pictures with Santa in his sleigh. All community children are invited and pets are welcome.
Wassail weekend planned
A wassail weekend will be held at Smokehouse Winery near Sperryville on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8 and 9. Come and taste several unique Meads, sample local foods and hear great acoustic music. Weekend music will include Ellen and Mana on Saturday and Fred Bois on Sunday. Admission is $10 which includes a tasting glass.
Rapidtran will not operate
Rapidtran transportation services will not operate on Friday, Dec. 7 due to a staff in-service. Rapidtran is a program of the Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services Board.
Clinic will be open Dec. 5
The Rappahannock Free Clinic, a local operation of the Fauquier Free Clinic Inc., is currently open on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. The clinic will be open Wednesday, Dec. 5 and not again until Dec. 19.
Patient registration is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Public Health Department Building. For additional information call 347-0394.
County artists wanted
The Piedmont Artists’ League invites all Rappahannock artists to participate in a nonjuried show and sale from Friday, Dec. 7 through Saturday, Dec. 15 at Art-N-More in Warrenton. The show will coincide with the first week of Old Town Warrenton’s Christmas festivities, with a reception on Dec. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Artists may submit a maximum of five works at $5 per entry for members or $8 per entry for nonmembers. Call Fred Lokay at 347-0521 or e-mail at flokay@citizen.infi.net for application forms and additional information.
Ragged Mountain activities
The following activities are scheduled for the month of December through the Ragged Mountain Resource Center. For additional information call Hunt Harris at 987-3366.
• Saturday, Dec. 8: Second Saturday Hike Series. Destination: trails along headwaters of upper Rappahannock watershed tributaries, (will vary according to weather, group dynamics and hike leader discretion). Meet at Mountainside Market on US 211 west of Sperryville between 8-8:30 and return mid-late afternoon. Bring layerable clothing and nourishment for self.
• Saturday, Dec. 29: Twilight/Moonlight Hike of Old Rag Mountain. Meet at upper parking lot for Old Rag (Nethers side) between 6:30-7 p.m. Bring layered clothing, comfortable yet sturdy footwear, back-up light and nourishment for self.
Yoga classes in Hume
Fitness oriented yoga classes start early January at Leeds Episcopal Church in Hume. Classes will be Monday and/or Thursday evenings at 7:30 and are appropriate for beginners to intermediate. Call Elly at 364-1070 for additional information or to register.
New Year's Eve Gala
The Windmore Foundation for the Arts and Hazel River Inn Restaurant announces its first New Year’s Eve Gala, “Starry Night". Join your friends and neighbors, doors will open at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31 at the Hazel River Inn Restaurant on Davis Street in Culpeper.
Proceeds from the Gala will support this non-profit organization and the arts programs in the area including Windmore Community Theater, Art in the Park, Children’s Theater Workshop and more. For information call 547-2555.
Blue Moon schedule

Exhibition at Packing Shed
The Packing Shed Gallery in Washington is featuring friends of the gallery in Harvest of Artists exhibition which will run through Dec. 30. Featured artists include Susanna Conaway, Nora Harrington, June Jordan, Steve Kenny, Donald Liscomb, Sally Nash, Margot Neuhaus, Robin Purnell, Heather Self and Stephen Wagner.
