Effective immediately, many County Government Offices have new telephone numbers. As part of an effort to bring the telephone system up to the late twentieth century standards (just in time for the early 21st century), most County Government Offices are linked together by a central phone system. This will enable offices to transfer calls to other offices and/or directly to specific employees who are being sought by callers.

“In addition, many County employees and offices will now have voice mail. Since voice mail has been around for about 20 years, most of us have decided that it’s here to stay and have overcome our revulsion at the innovation. Most people will be pleased to learn that we’re holding the line for the moment at “music-on-hold”; there are limits to how much technology a rural government can stand," said County Administrator John McCarthy.

Folks calling the old telephone numbers will, for a time, be automatically forwarded to the new numbers. Soon, however, callers to the old numbers will be given a voice recording notifying them of the new number.

Be assured that 911 service is not affected in any way.
