Local authors and subjects of local interest again dominated the list of best-selling books in Rappahannock County in the year 2002, according to the Old Sperryville Bookshop.
Former U. S. Senator Eugene McCarthy, who has a home near Woodville, captured the No. 1 position on this best seller list with his book of country wisdom and humor, “From Rappahannock County.”
Mr. McCarthy, a former presidential candidate, had a big hit with this newest edition of essays on life in Rappahannock County, which was published last spring.
In this fourth annual list of the 10 best selling books compiled by the bookshop, local authors took the top four spots.
Readers showed a strong interest in local history, nature books, the Civil War, and children’s books.
The surprise in the list is a little gem called “The Blue Day Book: A Lesson in Cheering Yourself Up,” which combines hilarious pictures of animals with wry one-liners on life’s ups and downs—mostly downs.
(If a picture of a bear cub reaching into the open beak of & "pelican doesn’t bring a smile, you need medical attention.)
