Old Man Winter is finally showing his teeth after six v ' i; s of hardly a dusting of the hite stuff.
This is good news for snow skiers and snowboarders itching to try out their new gear, because Virginia-" has several slopes only a short drive away.
Each resort offers various package deals. Most resorts sell rentals on a first come first serve basis. Some days and weekends are more xj-.ensive than others and ski buffs should call before they venture forth.
For the Wintergreen Ski Resort, this has been a banner season so far.
“This is only the second time in the resort’s history that we have been able to open in November,” Wintergreen publicity director Frankie Love said.
We have the snow making machines working 24 hours a day and have gotten about 5 inches of natural snow (over Christmas) on top of our 36” base.”.
All the area ski resorts offer lessons to beginners, many of the first lessons are free to beginner skiers who rent at their resort.
Helmets are available at most of the resorts for a $5 fee.
Snow tubing is also offered at most of the resorts. Tubing is a great way to have fun in the snow without strapping something your feet.
Several of the area resorts have child care centers and ski camps for the little ones.
