and trails, 1,000 feet of vertical drop. In the “snowborder’s only” terrain park there are two table tops and four rail slides (the halfpipe is currently not in use).

Not wanting to be outdone by the skiers and snowboarders, Wintergreen has The Plunge, a 100 foot vertical drop snowtubing slide. Tubers can get speeds from 25-40 miles per hour on this wild ride.

For those who do not feel the need for speed, the accompanying “Slide” is a more gentler ride.

Done Virginia? Pennsylvania has several excellent slopes just across the border.

Ski Whitetail

Located: Whitetail ski resort is located in south central Pennsylvania just across the Maryland border, north of Hagerstown.

Features: Floodlit for night skiing up to 10 p.m., the area’s 17 runs appeal largely to intermediate level skiers.

Experts have a few steep runs over the 900 foot vertical to enjoy, and the whole area is covered by state of the art snow making.

Off slope facilities available include day care for kids ages 1 and up.

Whitetail offers the longest half pipe in the MidAtlantic Region with a variety of terrain features to challenge expert riders.

Whitetail’s little sister Ski Roundtop offers many of the same amenities.
