Henry also said that in the three Comprehensive Plan hearings “one thing that drives everything is taxes—the issue will be where is the money coming from in the future.
“Economic development has never been talked about,” he added. “We’re all on the same page regarding development, but where do tax dollars come from?”
Steve Kenny of Fodderstack Road said that the money will come from tourism, but that he was concerned that promoting tourism without planning ahead would have negative consequences.
He mentioned that there are “locations around the country that promoted tourism—those who planned for it are okay, the others paid for it later . . . taxes increased and quality of life declined.”
