AN ISLAND

FUNERAL

In the Bahamas, funerals are sad occasions as well as important social events. Newspapers publish long obituaries that describe the life and good qualities of the deceased. Because a Bahamian funeral can last for many hours, families usually schedule the services on weekends. This allows time for family and friends of the deceased to purchase new clothes, for politicians to prepare speeches, and neighbors to prepare food for the wake. During the wake, anyone who knew the deceased can share their memories. Some people may give rather funny speeches or tell exaggerated stories, which may lead a family member or close friend to check inside the coffin to make sure the stories being told are the correct person.

Funeral choices are as different as the individuals they honor. At the Moser Funeral Home, 233 Broadview Ave., we offer a wide variety of options to choose from, and you can personalize your service to reflect your loved ones wishes. For a tour, call 347-3431 (Bright View Cemetery) just outside Warrenton, offers monuments and memorials for all cemeteries.
