Lander, president of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, addressed rumors he had heard regarding Rappahannock’s aspirations of becoming a Gateway Community.
As a Gateway Community, a town attempts to provide tourists with a reason to stop and spend money instead of merely passing through— in Rappahannock’s case on their way to Shenandoah National Park.
Lander presented each Planning Commission member a book entitled “Balancing Nature and Commerce in a Gateway Community.” He told board members that the text was their “reading assignment for the rest of the summer” and hoped that the book would help them see how to successfully create a Gateway Community.
Meanwhile, Bob Hensley of Castleton commented on his desire to see the rights of property owners kept in mind while creating the plan. He feels this is something which is becoming increasingly less important in the area.
The Planning Commission’s last public forum on the review of the Comprehensive Plan will be in Flint Hill. No date has been set yet.
