By the time you read this,
you will probably have read news stories about all the new state laws that will have taken effect July 1.
In many cases, it is probable that you will not have known previously about most of the new laws coming your way. In fact, it is also probable that many members of the state legislature will not have known about at least some of the new laws.
That is simply par for the course. I recall in my own days of covering the legislature doing a traditional end of June story about all the new laws that would soon be affecting Virginians in small or large ways.
And I have to confess though I had been at the General Assembly every day of its session that some of the laws I dug up came as complete surprises to me. When my editors asked me about some of them, I did enough of a song and dance to avoid any
