I like reading a newspaper in the morning, with a cup of coffee and maybe a bagel or a muffin. It takes me an hour or an hour and a half to go through a newspaper like The Washington Post. I’m retired, so I can spend that amount of time turning the pages, reading items of interest, including the comics, and marking articles to clip later. Some say to me, “Get a life. ...”
The best newspaper reading is done away from home in a setting that is relatively quiet and where you might meet someone you know.
One of my favorite places is the Old Sperryville Book Store in Sperryville. Books surround you, and Jim or Joan Gannon, the owners, may be there for some casual conversation. The place is quiet and there is coffee, tea or juice, and pastries.
