Mills said Marlor reminded him of himself upon his entrance to the board. He added that while he had intended to vote for Marlor he was changing his vote in order to avoid sending the decision on to the courts which is where it goes with a tie.
"My favor is with Ken, but my vote is with Miss Kilpatrick," he said.
Kilpatrick must be sworn in before the July 8 meeting.
"I’m grateful for the confidence the school board showed me and 111 do my best for the children of Rappahannock County," Kilpatrick said after the meeting.
In other action, Standards of Learning tests were discussed. While data is not official yet, Interim Superintendent Helen Williams said she is certain Rappahannock will be fully accredited this year.
Among the many scores the schools had on their bragging list this year are a 96 percent pass rate in English 11 and 100 percent pass rate ■■ in World History II.
"I'm delighted I'm going out on this happy note,” said Williams on the evening before her retirement.
