Empty booths or tables are available; you can move condiments to an edge; and the newspaper can be spread out fully. You can eat off a plate set right in the middle of the newspaper, lifting it to turn a page.
In cities, some large bookstores carry foreign newspapers. It may cost about $4 for, say, The Irish Times, or The Prague Post. At that price, you take a few weeks to go through the newspaper thoroughly. The Financial Times of London is an excellent newspaper for only $1, and it is an eye-opener on what is going on in the world when compared to coverage in U.S. newspapers.
If you are going to travel overseas, a foreign newspaper is good way to prepare. The Internet is a vast source of newspapers, both foreign and domestic. Even wire services, such as the Associated Press or Reuters have web sites.
