There is no principal and only a little over two weeks remain until new faculty arrives Aug. 11 for the 20032004 school year at Rappahannock County Elementary School.
This position is one of five vacancies yet to be filled. Also needed are a secretary, a teacher’s aide, a part-time volunteer coordinator and a high school math teacher.
Earlier this month, former elementary school principal Raye Tupper was appointed to fill the new position of Executive Director of Human Resources and Instruction.
Her promotion left a vital seat empty and a hunt began almost immediately to fill it. Professional organizations were contacted and notices were placed on numerous web pages in an attempt to get the word out about Rappahannock’s most urgent vacancy.
Superintendent Bob Chappell feels while this hunt may be a challenge, a qualified candidate will be found before the start of the school year on Aug. 25.
“It’s not easy to fill central administration positions in mid-summer, and it’s not easy to fill principalships in mid-July,” he said, explaining most principals are not looking for jobs during this season, but are instead gearing up for the coming year.
