We, as county residents,
should turn out on July 31 for the last in a series of public forums by the Rappahannock County Planning Commission to give our views on the county’s future.
The meeting will be held at the Flint Hill Fire Hall at 7:30 p.m.
Chairman Tom Junk has invited all to attend and give their views which will be considered for inclusion in the revised county' Comprehensive Plan due to be published mid-2004.
Since last fall, the Planning Commission has been on the road visiting each of the county’s five districts discussing with citizens the various sections of the plan and listening to comments about what needs to be revised and included.
The initial meeting was in Chester Gap with subsequent sessions in fire halls at Amissville, Sperryville, Washington and Castleton.
The scheduled meeting at Flint Hill is most likely to be the last time the public can state their druthers before the plan is reviewed and reworked in the commissioners’ work sessions.
The revised plan will be presented to the Board of Supervisors for approval early next year, with public hearings again held by both bodies.
The plan will then be the guiding principal for implementing ordinances for the next five years at which time the process will be repeated as required by Virginia law. ^
As the commissioners and supervisors have often said during the current process, the plan has stood the county well regarding our environment and quality of life.
