This year's Dukesfest, the annual gathering of “Dukes of Hazzard” fans in Sperryville will celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary at “Cooter’s Place” on Saturday, Aug. 9 and Sunday, Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Among the cast members appearing will be James Best, who portrayed Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane, Sonny Shroyer, who played Deputy Enos Strate, and Rick Hurst, the comic actor who played Hazzard Deputy Cletus Hogg.
Also appearing will be Don Pedro Colley, who was Sheriff Little of neighboring Chickasaw County, and several of the Dukes famed stuntmen, who will perform in a special stunt driving performance on Saturday evening at 6 p.m.
“Cooter” himself, Ben Jones, the former Congressman who played the loyal sidekick mechanic for Bo and Luke Duke, will host the event.
“There will be two days of great country and bluegrass music, a Mopar show, a classic car gathering, a Model Car show, and General Lees from all over America and Canada,” said Jones, who along with his wife Alma have operated the Dukes’ theme store for five years.
“This year is very special to the cast and crew of the show because we started filming in 1978, 25 years ago. One critic said that our show wouldn’t last past the first commercial break. Has anybody ever been more wrong?”
Jones explained, “Although Dukesfest is all free, The Hazzardous Stunt Show will be a separate event, beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening
