The impact killed Dudley instantly.
Her stepfather, who resides in Triangle, was in cardiac arrest when emergency crews arrived and later was pronounced dead at Fauquier Hospital.
The driver of the van, Royce Kim Rollins, an electrician who lives in Amissville, was on his way to a baseball game at Vint Hill Farms at the time of the 2:15 p.m. accident, police said.
Rollins was taken to Fauquier Hospital with nonlife threatening soft tissue injuries, police said, and released later that evening.
When reached at home, Rollins said he did not wish to comment at this time.
The sudden death of this Liberty High School student has rocked the Bealeton area.
Students and teachers learned of the death late Sunday night and are trying to cope with the loss.
"She was the happiest person I know," said classmate Krysta Norman.
"She always had a big smile on her face. Most people have good days and bad days. I don't think Jessica ever had a bad day."
Norman played varsity basketball with Dudley. She called her an asset to the team.
"Jessica always brought the team up, every time," Norman said. "She was a very enthusiastic player."
Coach Ellen Allen is distraught over the young player's death.
Allen first met Dudley when the student transferred from Woodbridge High School during her sophomore year. While Dudley was in Allen's lOth-grade physical education class, the coach convinced the young athlete to try out for the team.
