At 2:40 p.m., the motorcyclist, who was identified as Craig Linwood Cooley of Aldie, Va., continued west on Route 211 in the far right lane up the mountain road and around a curve, which he could not negotiate without crossing into the oncoming lane.
Trooper Corbin, who investigated, said that “a high rate of speed was probably a contributing factor” in the accident.
In crossing the lane, Cooley hit head-on a 1997 Chevrolet van driven by Bela Bolazs of New Jersey. Cooley-was killed instantly, according to Trooper Corbin, when he slid under the van.
