Free eye, hearing tests
The Rappahannock Lions Club invites county citizens to have their eyes checked free (including Glaucoma testing) along with free hearing tests on Friday. June 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Elementary School. The club also is collecting used eye glasses which can be used for recycling. They can be in any shape as parts of the glasses can be used for a re-conditioned set for those in need.
Song and sushi
Ki Theatre will host a gala benefit dinner and concert with legendary folksinger Tom Paxton on Saturday, June 12. It is hosted by Fran Moore Krebser at her home. “Patria," near Flint Hill and features Japanese Sushi (or grilled tuna). Family reunion
Friends and family of the late Amon, Sam, Ash, Howard, Robert, Oscar, Walter and Helen Wharton will meet June 13 at the Castleton Fire Hall. Please bring a covered dish and drink to share. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.
Civil War concert
Attendees to the June 15 meeting of the Blue Ridge Civil War Roundtable will be in for a musical treat listening to music of the Civil War. Performed by Evergreen Shade (John Tole and Anne Howard), the concert will be at Evergreen, the home of John and Judy Tole on Rock Mills Road near Route . 211. Included in the program will be historical commentary by John Tole on the background of the songs. Guests will assemble there at 7 p.m.; concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Oriental dance classes
Oriental dance classes, including two for beginners, are scheduled for five Tuesdays from June 15 through July 13 at 6 p.m. at the Belle Meade Schoolhouse in Sperryville on Route 231, six miles south of Route 522. Library’s summer program
Rappahannock County Library's summer student author/illustrator program,"A Likely Story," is taking applications. Geared towards middle and high school students, participants write and illustrate their own 16-page hardcover book.
