“I’m really surprised at how much upper respiratory infections I’m seeing,” he said. “You expect to see it in the spring, not now.”

Palumbo is a native of Northern Virginia, having grown up in AfcLean. His father was the Redskins’ team doctor during George Allen’s coaching career. Palumbo received his M.D. from Georgetown University and practiced emergency medicine in Maryland, Florida and Louisiana, as well as in Virginia.

“I’m moving out here,” he said. “I’m very excited to be moving into the county.”

His medical experience includes time spent in specialities other than emergency care.

“I did cosmetic surgery for a couple of years, a lot of liposurgery. That’s where you lose inches, not pounds,” he explained.

Palumbo intends to make the urgent-care facility as comprehensive as possible. He and his staff can give physicals and other types of tests.
