Upstairs, a wall full of pictures shows Col. Bourgeois and all the First Ladies for whom he has played, beginning with Rosalind Carter. A small loft study has a primitive pine desk, and hunting prints. A large bedroom features two double beds with quilts, and a needlework rug, ottoman and pillows done by the colonel on his travels.
The Tuscan kitchen is dominated by a stuffed boar’s head, mounted over the other original fireplace. A collection of pewter pieces on the mantelpiece, a large chandelier, copper pots, books and china vie for space. A Cajun-themed bathroom off the kitchen is roofed with Roman tiles.
Out the kitchen door are a shade garden and the path to Col. Bourgeois’ studio. Here are more souvenirs of a life filled with music and travel. Two large portraits of the owner dominate the space.
