scam in the form of a call from a reputed Federal Notification Service telling him he was eligible for a sum of money between $8,000 and $25,000 in federal grants, if only he would give the caller the routing numbers for his bank account.
The Flint Hill man smelled a scam and gave the caller the routing numbers for an account that he had already closed. No action was taken by the Sheriffs Department.
On Saturday, July 24, at around 10:30 p.m., Virginia State Police stopped a 1997 4door Audi on Route 231 near the Madison County line in an “approved checking detail,” and charged two of the vehicle’s three occupants, one with possession of a concealed weapon (a large knife) and another with possession of marijuana. The men, Maxwell Marquand Parrish, 19, of Culpeper County, charged with a weapon violation, lives in Rixeyville; the other man; Tony Lamont Starks, also 19, and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession, lives in Washington, Va. Warrants were issued and the men were released on their own recognizance. A court date was set for Aug. 17.
