heads to
Orange Bowl

The thrill of being named All American was exciting for two local Cheerleaders, but for one, the nomination has lead to the event of a lifetime — to perform in the 71st Annual Orange Bowl football game in Miami, Fla.
This past July, Rappahannock County High School’s Kelsey Hutcheson and Corey Voorhies attended cheer camp at the University of Baltimore. Several months before, the pair had begun working on stunts together, and were the only two at the camp who could partner stunt.
Their skill caught the attention of camp instructors, and they were two of the 25 nominated out of a field of 200 cheerleaders to be named All American.
This honor has led to an invitation for Hutcheson to perform at the Orange Bowl next week, where the University of Southern California will take on Oklahoma University for college football’s national championship.
“After working so hard in high school, it is nice to have something that you are recognized for, like cheerleading. It is something I can be proud of,” said Hutcheson.
The RCHS senior leaves for Miami on Dec. 31 with her father, Greg Hutcheson. There, she will have five rehearsals before the actual show.
The nationally-televised event takes place on Jan. 4, beginning at 8 p.m. Hutcheson will perform in the pregame show and during halftime, joining 2,000 of the nation’s best talent on the field.
