Both Boulanger and Sharif are terrific. Boulanger’s performance as Momo won the best actor Hugo at the Chicago Film Festival. Sharif is in a different role for the elegantly seductive Sharif; he’s haggard, shaggy and plumpish. He evokes perfectly an old man whose hard life and long journey from his Turkish village and homeland have helped win him spiritual riches few suspect.
“Monsieur Ibrahim” takes friendship and love between a Jew and a Muslim and makes it seem natural and wondrous. This is a tender and sweet spirited parable of the brotherhood of man.
“Ibrahim,” in French and Turkish with subtitles, is rated R for thematic sexuality and partial nudity. Run time is 95 minutes.
