Memory Lane
From Page A4
High school sophomore Jennifer Bowen received $150 in scholarship money for her oral essay “My Vision for America” in the Veterans of Foreign Wars “The Voice of Democracy” essay contest. Jennifer was first place in the post contest and fourth place at the district level. The contest was open to 10th through 12th grade students. Two of the problems she addressed in her essay, which was recorded on audio tape, were the public’s lack of information about the doings of Congress and the medical repairing of gang members when they are shot. Jennifer suggested newspapers should report all the debates in Congress and gang members who are found guilty should be sentenced to work in hospitals. Jennifer said she plans to save her winnings for college.
