After two years as editor of the Rappahannock News, veteran journalist Mary Ann Kuhn of Washington, Va. has accepted a new position with the Journal Newspapers in Washington, D.C.
Effective Jan. 3, Anita Sherman of Warrenton, former education writer for the Fauquier Jlmes-Democrat, will assume the duties of editor of the newspaper.
Kuhn accepted the position of editor of the Rappahannock News in January 2003, taking over from longtime executive editor Barbara Wayland, who was ill and died the following April.
Kuhn, who brought years of print and television journalism experience to the News, upgraded news coverage, added staff and made many innovations during her tenure. She expanded the use of color photography, introduced the newsmakers on Page Al, initiated local sports pages on a regular basis, hired a sports editor, and increased on-line news gathering. She took advantage of the expertise of members of the community in news gathering and photography.
