Spieker’s full time position from 1988-2003 was with Fairfax County Fire and Rescue, where she worked 53 hours a week.
At the same time, she also volunteered at Washington Fire and Rescue Department, putting in at least 40-50 hours a week. In the beginning, she still found time to continue coaching the high school track team.
“Except for the time she is actually sleeping, she is doing something for this community,” said Roach.
