Purnell’s technique is bom of a world of artisans and artists hundreds of years old. She begins with a drawing, and then an underpainting on canvas. Then she meticulously layers the oil paints in a glazing technique that builds up the surface, and results in the brilliant glow of the paintings.
Many prestigious institutions and galleries around the world have exhibited Purnell’s work, among them, the Royal Academy of Arts in London. She was the first American artist to have an exhibition at the Catherine’s Palace Museum in Pushkin and the Dostoyevsky Museum in St. Petersburg.
“I am always looking for beauty and the power of beauty to move people,” said Purnell.
