“We’re the first stop for the Front Royal loop,” said Irwin with a broad grin.
“People can start here and continue up to Sky Meadows State Park and beyond.”
Bird watching has become a very popular pastime. It’s low on the dollar and high on the enjoyment level.
“These trails are patterned after a concept that was started in Texas,” said Irwin, “along the Gulf Coast - that’s where the first birding trail was set up.”
Many are familiar with the network of Civil War Trails that meander throughout the state allowing citizens and tourists alike to learn more about that period in American history.
“With the addition of these birding and wildlife trails, people can rediscover nature and better appreciate areas of our state that are less developed,” continued Irwin who added that this area has one of the largest collection of migratory birds.
Nestled beneath Irwin’s window is a collection of bird books and information about the area.
“If someone wants to go on the trail, they just need to phone me and set it up,” said Irwin. “I’d be glad to loan them any of these hooks and a pair of binoculars and they are free to go anywhere on
