Until 1915 the history of the Thornton’s Gap Regular Baptist Church and the Baptist Church at Thornton Gap, or the Thornton Gap Primitive Baptist Church are the same. At that time, however, two factions developed as'a result of a disagreement of what was basically the subject of missions.
The property was divided, and the congregation became two separate organizations, the Means, or Regular Baptists, and the AntiMeans, or Primitive Baptists. The Means decided to tear down the old church and build a new one.
While this was being done, worship services were held in Sycamore Church. Frame work from the old building was used in the new, on the same site, and the famous
