Brunswick Stew Day at the General Assembly.
So this past Wednesday, twenty five members of the Brunswick County/ Lake Gaston Tounsm Association arrived early in the morning with ingredients, pots and propane-fired cookers and created the stew on the spot. By noon, almost every member of the General Assembly and hundreds of staff persons could be seen standing in line at a large white tent in front of the General Assembly Building.
By telling you that little story, I don’t want to leave you with the impression that everybody is lining up for a hearty helping of the same dish in Richmond. Indeed there are other ingredients simmering in the legislative stew that may soon reach a boiling point in down here. We recently heard from our goyemor and our state senate regarding proposed budgets that included yet another round of tax increases. I’ll be sure to keep you informed about whether either of these proposed budgets end up on the table and about how I plan to vote on them. I think you probably already know where I stand.
