“This is a big city corporate florist pulling a scam on Rappahannock County,” said Clark Lane resident Allan Rexinger. Rexinger says that some of the motorists that he has questioned on Clark Lane refer to Greystone Estate as the “Bed and Breakfast” they are staying at, and both Rexinger and Choate mentioned a wedding reception that was held there in September, complete with signs pointing to Greystone as the location of the party. These are the incidents that led to the Cease and Desist letters from McCarthy. Harvey defends these incidents as the results of accidental overbooking at The Blue Rock. “Their wedding is the most important day of their lives, I’m not going to ruin it because we made a mistake,” explained Harvey.
“In an emergency like that, just dealing with the overflow is understandable. It’s when it becomes repetitive that the county would have to step in,” said McCarthy. According to McCarthy, a third violation would be grounds for the county to step in, and that step would take the form of a lawsuit against Harvey.
“People usually stop once you sue them,” added McCarthy.
Taking its toll
There does seem to be more to Rexinger’s claims than affirmations from confused motorists wondering why they’re being questioned on the side of the road by a lawyer and an economist.
