Federal law already recognizes the importance of protecting those who bravely come forward to testify against murderers, gang members and drug dealers and I believe that state law should protect them as well. Since this bill is so important and the consequences so grave, we spent a fair amount of time tinkering with the language. The subcommittee is composed primarily of lawyers so it was no surprise that we spent about ten minutes arguing about where the commas should be in the proposed language. I had planned to meet constituents at three different receptions Wednesday evening including local officers at the Fraternal Order of Police reception, but they were long gone by the time I finally emerged wearily from the General Assembly Building.
