food stamps or fuel assistance. I even had about $100 balance before I got my social security check. I continually ask myself if you can’t afford to live anywhere, does that mean you aren’t supposed to live? Thank God for my parents who love me, and have the means to help me some! What do other seniors do?
I don’t know who has been helped by the new Medicare drug “benefit”, but it sure wasn’t me. I am also losing my favorite pharmacy, Rhodes Drug Store, which is closing , in part because of not being able to incorporate the mess of a benefit into their system. I guess Wal-Mart, like the pharmaceutical companies, has been helped by this new “benefit” too.
My advice to people who are the “recipients” of this benefit, is two-fold. First, make sure you won’t be dropped from your plan because social security can’t get their act together to deduct your payment from your check. And, when you contact your plan to resolve the problems you are sure to face, lie. You can’t get through on the phone to them unless you select the options that say you are a pharmacist calling from a pharmacy trying to fill a prescription. The pharmacy 1 went to would not even try to connect them, saying they couldn’t get through to them either. I learned that this trick worked after being disconnected about ten times in different choices of their voice mail queue. It still takes a long time, but at least you get talk to them eventually. Good luck! You are going to need it.
