School funding
bills survive in
General Assembly

RICHMOND - The two school funding bills that could provide Rappahannock County with increased state aid survived Tuesday in the General Assembly.
Senate Bill 556, sponsored by Sen. Mark Obenshain i R-Harrisonburg>. and House Bill 936, sponsored by Delegate Todd Gilbert (RWoodstock), each received approval from a legislative panel.
The Senate Finance Committee endorsed HB 936 with amendments by a 9-7 vote.
‘This is identical to Sen. Obenshain’s bill relating to some future relief for Rappahannock County public schools. That t bill > has already cleared the Senate and the House," Gilbert told the committee.
The technical amendments were approved to make sure the bill does not have any negative impact on Rappahannock's neighboring counties.
The Klementary and Secondary Education Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee approved SB. 559 with amendments.
